This day was spent in and around Thunder Bay, as yesterday I arrived after dark and wanted to see a bit of the town that I had not been too since I was five years old. And, because the weather was not too good on my drive here, I backtracked, East, to the spectacular Ouimet Canyon Provincial Park for a few hours of picture making after touring the city’s Centennial Park where there is a 1910 logging camp, that now can be rented by groups, or for family outings. The bunk house beds have wooden ‘springs’....
Ice wind and rain, the architects of time, have chiseled deep into the Canadian Shield along Lake Superior’s north shore.
To get there one first drives trough a series of Birch forests, then up a very long and steep hill, where they warn those with camper trailers to leave them at the bottom.
Then there is a pleasant walk trough the woods, and over a wooden arched bridge. Then immediately visitors are met with a cold wind, howling up from the canyons floor, as you step out onto the viewing platform, suspended out from the top ledge 100 meters above the canyon floor.
As far as the eye can see, in all directions, is the spectacular view of the canyon walls.
