As I left my overnight parking spot at the City Dock in Perry Sound Ontario, (where they provided free WiFi). I was forced to leave the shore line of Georgian Bay to continue my trip. The reason? The only road north to my destination does not follow the shoreline. Highway 69 first goes west, then north as it cuts through the wilderness.
With one exception there were few opportunities for pictures along the way, that would not all show similar views of trees and rocks.
That exception was the (fairly new) French River Museum, and Provincial Park Information Center, located just off the highway in the middle of nowhere...
Perry Sound, ON
Perry Sound’s City Dock where pleasure boats, and float-planes share dockage with the 30,000 Islands Tour Boat.
Looking West, The French River flows into Georgian Bay from Lake Nipssing 68 miles to the northeast.
Looking northeast to the Highway
69 bridge
at French River
Seventy foot high sheer granite cliffs line shores of The French River.
French River Museum, and Provincial Park Information Center.
Museum visitors can view displays of the history
of fur traders and explorers who canoed
the river
hundreds of years ago.
This bridge, that crosses the French River, was built in 2005 by the Voyageurs Snowmobile Club.
The largest of its kind in the world, the 512 x 12 foot bridge is designed to carry the weight of 100 snowmobiles and equipment 90 feet above
the water
below.
Folks here
obviously take their snowmobiles seriously, as well they should.
In this area where 8 feet of snow is quite common in the winter months.
